10 Free Beret Knitting Patterns

Knitting hats are a favorite among knitters because they use a relatively small amount of yarn (usually only a skein or two), can be knitted up in just a few hours, are a great way to try a new stitch or technique, and are often seamless because they are knitted in the round.

In fact, you may want to check out some of these other hat knitting posts including baby hats, earflap hats, slouchy hats, and hats for men.

But in this post, we are talking about knitting berets.

Berets differ from other hats in the way they are shaped and worn. A beret has a fitted band to keep it on the head while the sides of it it are much wider.

A beret is worn with the slouchy part off the back off OR to one side while a regular knitted hat sits directly on the head.

How to you knit a beret?

There is more than one way to knit a beret! I've rounded up the 10 best beret knitting patterns and…yep! they're all free!

Brambles Beret Free Knitting Pattern

#2. Brambles Beret Free Knitting Pattern

Eight small cables twist up the body of the hat before tapering off like vines, while larger panels accented with moss stitch weave in and out before opening up to form the bloom covering the top of the hat.  There are no cables in the decrease rows, which take up most of the body of the hat.  The whole thing looks way more complicated than it really is!

By knitting more or fewer of the pattern rows and through the magic of blocking, the hat can be imagined as a snug beanie, a light slouch or a giant tam.
